Once I Was

If ever a biopic truly deserved a standing ovation, it would be this. Greetings from Tim Buckley. Besides, of course, Val Kilmer and The Doors.

Penn Badgley, I commend you. I  a d o r e you. I can’t fathom a single soul who could channel Jeff the way he did. His voice, his hair, the hollows of his cheeks, that longing stare that leaves you broken, the kind of feeling of wanting to love him enough to rid him of all his pain. His staple plain white tee and flannel. His necklace and his not-a-care-in-the-world kind of walk. He is music, like Jeff. JEFF BUCKLEY WAS MUSIC. Here’s a clip of Penn, who plays Jeff, actually singing Tim’s Once I Was. And let me just say, this song, the next few minutes, is poetry. It makes sense of everything that is important in life. It is beautiful.
